Google Adwords 3.0

One of the most common things I hear from my clients about Google Adwords is “they don’t work”, “I’m losing money”, etc, etc. I really hate to hear that because it doesn’t have to be that way!!!! Millions of businesses are using Google Adwords successfully and, if used correctly, can be one of the most cost effective strategies to drive traffic to your web site.
The most common reasons these clients lose money on Google Adwords:
- They don’t think strategically about their message: Please don’t use your business name for one of your keywords. If someone knows your business name, they can just enter it in the search field and chances are, it’s going to come right up. You use Google Adwords to find new customers that don’t know you.
- They take Google’s “suggestions” for bids on the keywords: – Hello! – Google Adwords is a business – they are in the business of helping you spend your money – it’s up to you to spend it wisely! You can bid lower – and getting the top spot is not necessary and doesn’t even work as well as the 4th or 5th spot.
So what’s a poor business guy to do? First of all, realize that you’ve got to spend the time to educate yourself on the BEST way to use Google Adwords – and if you’re not going to take the time – hire someone who already knows. Using Adwords to your benefit will take training, testing, reviewing, testing, reviewing, testing, etc, etc. Test several ads, test a lot of keywords. Take it slowly and watch every day what is happening in your account so you can make adjustments quickly when you see that something is not working.
If you are currently losing money in your Google Adwords account – please leave this blog immediately and pause your campaign right now – I’m serious – don’t waste another dollar – go stop it – NOW!

Google is currently doing a rolling launch of their new Adwords interface. I had a chance to preview it when I attended a presentation at the Search Engine Strategies Conference in NYC (find one near you) . I must say, I was really excited to see the new interface and changes. The Google Rep demonstrated all of the new user friendly tools and how to make changes instantly without a lot of unnecessary clicks. It even tells you immediately if there is a problem with the wording of your ad and suggests changes, which you can make immediately in the same spot. I think many of the new features will be very helpful for beginner Adwords users.
While the new layout of the interface is more user-friendly and there all a lot of new features, you will need to spend some getting familiar with everything. It really is a major departure from the previous layout. If you are already running a Google Adwords program, you should be able to see the link to the new interface in the upper right hand corner. It is a rolling launch, so not all accounts have the link at this time.
Before you click that link and start using the new interface, you should educate yourself on what to expect and how to use the new tools. Otherwise, you’ll just be spinning your wheels and wasting time poking around. Take the time to learn about it and how to use Adwords effectively. The time you spend will make using the system more effective and you’ll see much better results without wasting your hard-earned money and time.
Here are some independent reviews of the new interface, they will give you the pros and cons and what to expect before you click that switch link! And of course Google has provided documentation for the new layout, but obviously, they won’t be covering the “cons” – so do your research first.

When searching (”new google adwords interface”) for information about the new interface, make sure that the date of the article is April 2009 or later. Anything earlier might be talking about the previous version.

Good morning, that was pretty thougt provoking read. I love writing too, and I want to learn how to be more effective in affiliate marketing and curious if you can help me to do reality check. The plan is to pick up a few affiliate offers from CPA networks, but mainly focus my efforts around offers from “pay per deal” networks, as they a loooot of money. Then I want to extend my own net of blogs. What I don’t understand just yet from the search engine optimization stand point, is to how exactly link juice passes from a site to my money site, how to architect right links structure, and how to design mininets.
